The district asssembly (BVV) in Berlin-Mitte passed the following resolution in August 2020: “The district office is requested to realize the name change of Mohrenstraße […] and to start this process with immediate effect. According to our current understanding of democracy, the existing racist core of the name is a burden and damages the national and international perception of Berlin […] As a new name, the BVV suggests naming the street after Anton Wilhelm Amo (around 1703 – after 1753), the first scholar of African origins at a Prussian university. […].“

Many years of engagement, predominantly by Black and Afrodiasporic activists.
