A citizens' collection

The Mitte Museum's collection consists largely of donations from citizens. They are deliberately included in the collection. The museum is open to the ideas of others as to which objects should tell the history of the district and what should be preserved. The material or artistic value of objects is of secondary importance. The focus is on the meaning attributed to them by their previous owners. In this case, the subjective narrative makes an object accessible to others, and the museum records these stories. Sometimes the donors are hardly aware of how valuable the insights into the past are that their objects and stories provide.
